Principal Engineering Technician

Principal Engineering Technicians (PET's) perform civil engineering technical support activities for engineering projects and programs. PET duties may include serving as staff in a Regional Construction Group or in the field as construction inspector on various road, bridge, and appurtenance construction projects. PETs ensure that the orders and directives of higher-level engineers are properly carried out. PETs work at various levels of expertise and experience, which allows them to work independently under supervision of an Engineering Assistant (EA) or Professional Engineer 1 (PE1). A PET may also be staffed in the Regional Office in the Contracts Group, Consultant Group Construction Safety Group, Materials Group or Compliance Group.

Salary Range:
From $54903 to $69882 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an:
Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetic), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils). Only the title or titles listed are qualifying. The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:
Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority. Or 2. An Associate degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology AND TWO years of experience listed above in number 1 Or 3. A Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering, or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture/design, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology. Your degree or college credit, high school diploma or equivalency diploma must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university, high school or educational institution or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree, college credit, or high school diploma was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the NYS Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. You must pay the required evaluation fee. At the interview, you may be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your ability to meet the transportation needs of the job. Some assignments may include nights and weekends with travel and overnight. Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience, which can be verified, will be accepted on a prorated basis.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
